Carl was born and raised on a farm in Bostwick, Georgia; Carl quickly learned the value of being honest, caring and hard working while in his early years. Upon his graduating from the University of Georgia, Carl spent two years in the armed forces, there Carl developed many unique and strong management skills as a platoon leader while in Viet Nam. In 1973, Carl first ventured into the new home construction business, four years later; he founded Carl Riden Homes.
Over the next twenty eight years, Carl developed a thriving home building business which was highly respected, both locally in the Metro Atlanta area as well as nationally. From 1992 to 2004, Carl’s companies, Carl Riden Homes and Harcrest Homes, were awarded over 80 Professionalism Awards by the Greater Atlanta Homebuilders Association. Carl was named Atlanta’s “Builder of the Year,” in 1996, and in 2001, BUILDER magazine named Harcrest Homes “America’s Best Builder”.
Carl quickly found that most home builders chose to select trades and suppliers that gave them the lowest price which often meant having to change contractors frequently, these home builders were awarding contracts based purely upon price. In contrast, Carl and company chose to form long-term partnerships with their trades and suppliers. By showing mutual respect and loyalty, they are able to work together to constantly improve their efficiency, which allows them to provide the highest levels of quality and service, in addition to offering their customers the lowest possible price on their new home.
A Passion for Excellence! Carl has worked with his employees to develop efficient management systems which have been fine tuned over the past 33 years. His companies have work endlessly to develop true partnerships with their trades, most of who have worked with Carl for 10 to 15 years. Carl has also strived to have well-qualified supervisors with the proper amount of experienced, to effectively manage all of his home building projects. Carl is and his teams are constantly working hard to improve their operations and strengthen their reputation.
Carl found the secret to their success is never losing sight of one crucial fact—a new home is the most important purchase most people ever make. He also understands that every customer’s goal is to be able trust their builder to deliver the best possible home and home buying experience.
Carl decided to retired and sold his interests in Harcrest Homes In 2004. He also received the ultimate honor in January of 2007, when the Greater Atlanta Homebuilders Association presented Carl with the Cenker Award for lifetime service to the homebuilding industry and the people associated with it.
While never bored in retirement, Carl’s passion for building homes continued to be strong, and he remained committed to the industry. He began exploring the idea of returning to the home building business, and his decision was made when he found the ideal partner in Tom Reed and then came Redmont Homes.

On a more personal note, Carl has made his home in Flowery Branch, Georgia, on Lake Lanier, with his wife Erika, their two cats Kato and Angelique, and their dog Mandy. They have two daughters, Lynn and Diane. Lynn and her husband Mike live in Pauley’s Island, South Carolina, with their daughter Pamela living in nearby Myrtle Beach with her husband Nick. Diane and her husband Rick live in Lawrenceville, Georgia, with their youngest son, Justin, while their oldest son Jeremy is in the Navy stationed at Pearl Harbor. Carl and Erika like to spend time hiking in the North Carolina mountains, gardening, and visiting Carl’s family farm in Bostwick, Georgia. Erika was originally from Switzerland, and she and Carl enjoy making the trip overseas to visit her family.
