Where does this passion start? At the top, with partners Carl Riden and Tom Reed

Born on a farm in Bostwick, Georgia, Carl Riden learned the value of being honest, caring and hard working early in life. After graduating from the University of Georgia, he spent two years in the army, where he developed his unique and strong leadership skills as a platoon leader in Viet Nam. In 1973, he first ventured into the homebuilding business, and in 1977 he founded Carl Riden Homes.

During the next 28 years, Carl developed a homebuilding business that was highly respected, both locally in the Atlanta area and nationally as well. Between 1992 and 2004, his companies, Carl Riden Homes and Harcrest Homes, won 80 Professionalism Awards from the Greater Atlanta Homebuilders Association. In 1996, Carl was named Atlanta’s “Builder of the Year,” and in 2001, Harcrest Homes was named “America’s Best Builder” by BUILDER magazine. In 2004, Carl sold his interests in Harcrest Homes and retired. He received the ultimate honor in January of 2007, when the Greater Atlanta Homebuilders Association presented Carl with the Cenker Award for lifetime service to the homebuilding industry and the people associated with it.

While never bored in retirement, Carl’s passion for building homes continued to be strong, and he remained committed to the industry. He began exploring the idea of returning to the business, and his decision was made when he found the ideal partner in Tom Reed.

Tom was born in Des Moines, Iowa, where he was taught that success is only earned through hard work and that the secret to happiness is treating other people the way you want to be treated. After graduating from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, Tom enrolled in the Master’s program at the University of Houston to study Architectural Design. After leaving school he went to work for a small homebuilder in Brenham, Texas. Since then, he has successfully led operations for some of the nation’s largest and most respected homebuilding companies. During the span of his career, Tom has built homes in six different states for more than 4,000 families, with over 600 of those in the Atlanta area.

Together, Carl and Tom bring more than 60 years of combined experience to Redmont Homes. The secret to their success is never losing sight of one crucial fact—a home is the most important purchase most people ever make.
